Family, No Matter Where You Go

Have you ever had one of those moments where you’re surrounded by people you just met, and yet, it feels like you’ve known them forever? That’s exactly how I felt this past week during the gospel meeting in California. The hospitality, kindness, and shared love for God’s Word were powerful and encouraging. Many of these brothers and sisters were people I had only interacted with online. But when we finally met in person, it was like reconnecting with family.
Why is that?
Because in Christ, we are family. No matter where we go, if we’re walking with God, we’re never truly strangers. That’s not just a sweet thought, it’s biblical truth.
In Ephesians 2:19, Paul writes,
“Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.”
That word household is important. We’re not just an organization or a club. We’re a family. And that means wherever you go, whether it’s a small town in Texas or a coastal city in California, you can find your spiritual brothers and sisters. You can find people who love God, who stand for the truth, and who will welcome you with open arms.
Sometimes, we might assume that faithful Christians are hard to find in certain places. But I’m here to tell you from experience, you can find sound brethren even in places like California. You just have to look with the eyes of faith.
Listen to how Paul puts it in Romans 12:5:
“So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.”
Isn’t that beautiful? We belong to one another. We are deeply connected, not by geography, culture, or even personality, but by Jesus Himself. Whether you're shaking hands with a Christian in Tennessee or hugging one in California, you're still part of the same body, the same eternal family.
And this connection runs deeper than anything the world offers. The world forms friendships based on hobbies, politics, or convenience. But Christians are bound together by something far greater: truth, love, and a common Savior.
Now, let me share the best part.
Jesus said in John 13:35,
“By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
It was this kind of love that made complete strangers in California feel like long-lost cousins. It’s the kind of love that crosses borders, breaks barriers, and builds bridges wherever the gospel goes.
So if you ever feel isolated or discouraged, remember this: God’s family is everywhere. It stretches from coast to coast and beyond. There are faithful brothers and sisters even in the places you least expect. So, we are never alone because we are surrounded by family.
